Ecuador has a network of roads connecting
its major cities and towns. The most important one
is the Pan-American Highway, which crosses the country
from north to south, connecting Ecuador with Colombia
and Peru. A major portion of the road crosses the
length of the Andes. It is approximately 1,400 kilometers
(875 miles) long. The coastal road (also known as
The Route of the Sun) is another major highway, running
from the north in Esmeraldas to the south border in
Huaquillas, province of El Oro. This road crosses
through beautiful beaches, fishing towns and rapidly
growing cities. The road to the Amazon region is permanently
under construction. Currently it is the only road
to the jungle.
