Ecuador’s newspapers provide information to most of the country. The major newspapers with national coverage are El Comercio, Hoy and La Hora in Quito; Universo, Expreso and El Telégrafo in Guayaquil. Cuenca’s newspaper is El Tiempo. Each provincial capital city or major city also has a local newspaper. Television is represented by seven national networks that reach almost the entire country. They are Gamavisión, Teleamazonas, TC Televisión, Telesistema, Telerema, Ecuavisa and Canal 1. Of these only Gamavisión reaches the Galapagos Islands. There are also local networks in various provinces. A private cable TV network (TV Cable) offers approximately 40 international channels. Internet usage is widespread throughout the country. Cities such as Quito, Guayaquil, Manta, Esmeraldas, Cuenca, Ambato, Baños, Loja, Otavalo, Riobamba, among others, have cyber cafes. Also, several private companies provide internet service to individual users.
